Hi, I am Chris Dean and I am one of two music teachers here at Urbana Elementary School.  I spend four days a week here at UES and one day a week at Myersville Elementary School.  This is currently my second year at UES, and it has been a wonderful environment to work, teach, and learn!!

I am excited to see the students here at UES grow musically throughout the year.  In music class, I have high expectations as students will learn to be expressive in music through, movement, performance (both instrumental and vocal) and through composition.  I also strive to maintain an environment that is caring, safe, comfortable, and conducive to learning.

I come to UES a 2007 graduate of Shepherd University, with a Bachelor's of Music Education.  While at Shepherd, I was given many wonderful opportunities to perform in many ensembles and venues, including America's Cathedral to music, Carnegie Hall, in New York City.

As well as teaching here at Urbana, I have spent the past seven years teaching brass instruemental lessons, focusing on the trumpet and cornet.  I spent 6 years working with the Musselman High School band, teaching lessons, as well as the brass section. I am currently working with the brass section of the Urbana High School "Marching Hawks".  I have presented several master classes dealing with overcoming Music Performance Anxiety (MPA), proper breathing techniques for wind players and asthematics.  As a trumpet player, I am also a freelance musician.

I am a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, MENC (Music Educator's National Conference) MMEA (Maryland Music Educators Association) and am Communications Chair, Section 61 Alpha Phi Omega, as well as Chapter Advisor to the AZM chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity.

In My spare time, I involve myself in activities such as, camping, hiking the Appalachian Trail, top-rope rock climbing, kayaking, fly fishing, skiing, golf, disc golf, Civil War Re-enacting, and most importantly doing volunteer work!

If at any time throughout the year you need to contact me, please do through my email address christopher.dean@fcps.org or by phone at 240-236-2200 ext 62227.
