It is with great excitement that I joined the staff and community at Urbana Elementary School on March 1, 2008. I heard many wonderful aspects about the staff, students, and parents within the community and as I get to know more of you I am learning that it is all true.

So you know a little more about me: I was a teacher for several years in a couple of different Frederick County Public Schools. The grades I taught included kindergarten, first, second and fourth. I received a Masters degree from Hood College in Science and Math Curriculum Development, along with a certification degree in Administration. In 2001, I accepted an assistant principal position at Deer Crossing Elementary School. Three years later I was promoted to the position of principal at Deer Crossing, and I served in that position for four years before arriving at Urbana Elementary.

I reside in Frederick County with my husband and lovely daughter, Kate. She is three years old and has enriched our lives greatly. We enjoy traveling to various places, hiking, a good dinner out, and being with friends and family.

My hope is that I will continue meeting and talking with many of you as I learn more about the Urbana Elementary community. Mrs. Jan Hollenbeck
