My name is Brenda Boyd, and I am the Targeted Reading Intervention Teacher.  Welcome to my webpage.

My teaching career began as a special educator and I worked in that capacity for 24 years.  I have been teaching in Frederick County since 1988.  Before joining the Urbana Staff, I taught at Parkway and Ballenger Creek Elementary schools.  I have been at Urbana for 15 years.  (9 years as a special education teacher and for the last 6 years as a targeted reading intervention teacher).  Prior to teaching for FCPS, I was a special education teacher for the District of Columbia Public Schools and the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.

I believe that the fundamental basis of effective teaching is to create a positive and nurturing environment in the classroom wherein there is mutual respect between the teacher and students and high standards are set for educational goals.  The learning atmousphere should be fun as well as instructive, dynamic (in allowing frequent interactions and dialogue), and individually challenging so that students can reach their full learning potential.

I hold a B.S. degree from Georgia State University and have taken graduate courses through the University of Virginia, the University of Maryland, and Hood College.

The best way to contact me is by phone at 240-236-2184.
